Independent Artists: You need to sell MERCH — here’s why.
Merchandise is a great way to create revenue as an artist and connect with your fans
With streaming replacing physical media sales, selling merch is more essential than ever for making additional income, especially for independent musicians! Here’s why:
90% of everything purchased is merchandise, 10% is music.
Apparel and other accessory items continue to be the preferred choice of merchandise fans buy at shows, growing from 85% in 2017 to 95% in 2019. On average, it takes about 3,000 music streams to equal the profit from one CD sale and 5,000 streams to equal the profit from one t-shirt.
Get paid to get advertised!
When fans proudly sport a piece of merchandise they bought from one of their favorite artists, not only have they offered you financial support in exchange for a usable product, they are also effectively promoting you to new potential fans. There are few brands that people will actually pay to advertise on their clothing (think Nike, Adidas and other huge athletic or fashion brands) and as a music artist, you can take advantage of the cool factor in music merch as a fashion piece.
You need a visual brand. Your visual identity is a part of your brand as an artist, and you have one, whether you’ve given much thought to it yet, or not. Music fans love to have something in their hands linked to the artists they appreciate and follow. We are here to help make that a reality.
FMerch: Since 2006, we at famemagazine.co.uk have been consistently promoting indie and underground artists that it really believes in.
Music matters to us, pure and simple, and it’s our goal to help you to reach your fanbase and find your place in the music scene.
Our goal with FMerch is to really understand and collaborate with your brand as an artist and visually translate this into exclusive, original, and creatively designed merchandise that’s worth owning.
Sustainability and ethical production are also important to us. This is why we use only premium garments that reflect our commitment to quality, and respect for People and the Planet.
We create contemporary clothing made with respect for both People and the Planet. All garments are certified by GOTS, GRS, Oeko-Tex, OCS and PETA, and also encourage our printers to implement GOTS Certified printing techniques that use non-harmful inks and sustainable production methods.
